Meet the Teacher
hello friends!
Welcome to my little corner of the internet. My name is Sarah, and I'm really happy you've connected with something here! Education is more than just my career— it's my life. Nothing gets me more jazzed than creating spaces where knowledge is shared and a collaborative understanding is constructed that brings everyone a little bit closer to the truth. This deep love of learning drew me the field of education, where I spent five years teaching 3rd and 7th grade.
While I treasure those moments of teaching magic and the relationships I was able to cultivate during my time in the classroom, I cannot forget how my passion for educating was nearly crushed by the harsh reality of the school system. With each passing year, there was less and less freedom for my students and I to engage in any kind of liberating learning.
I could feel this squeeze on our humanity, yet I was unable to articulate it until I went to graduate school.
I had the great privilege to take a step back and learn about those problems I lived in the classroom, and you'd think a teacher would've known this already, but y'all, this time spent learning absolutely changed my life. Looking at educational theory through the lens of an elementary teacher has helped me develop simple ways of approaching complex problems, and I'm excited about making my contribution to the long tradition of making the world a place of greater humanization.
This passion for humanity is infused in the curriculum I create for children and the essays I write for adults. I am still learning and growing each day, but the cause of human liberation pushes me ever onward. My hope is that this devotion will shape my trajectory always and that the labor of my life can be meaningful for this movement, hand in hand with yours.
